Located in the coastal region of Odisha, Bhitarkanika National Park is one of India’s most unique and biodiverse ecosystems, known for its vast mangrove forests, intricate network of creeks, and incredible wildlife diversity. Often referred to as the second-largest mangrove ecosystem in India after the Sundarbans, Bhitarkanika is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike, offering unmatched opportunities to capture both terrestrial and aquatic life in a single expedition.
During this 3 nights and 4 days wildlife photography expedition, participants will explore the breathtaking mangrove landscape by boat and on foot, immersing themselves in the raw beauty of this thriving wetland habitat. The region is home to saltwater crocodiles, Indian smooth-coated otters, and an abundance of avian life, including collared, brown-winged, and stork-billed kingfishers, the vibrant mangrove pitta, and a variety of herons, egrets, and migratory shorebirds.
One of the key highlights of this expedition is the opportunity to track and photograph elusive small wild cats, especially the fishing cat — a rare and fascinating predator perfectly adapted to the mangrove ecosystem — along with the agile jungle cat. The expedition is not just about still photography; participants will also receive expert guidance on basic wildlife cinematography techniques, helping them capture compelling wildlife footage amidst the dramatic backdrops of Bhitarkanika’s mangroves.
This journey into the heart of one of India’s most unique natural habitats promises a rewarding experience for photographers, filmmakers, and wildlife enthusiasts eager to document the untold stories of this extraordinary ecosystem.
