Join DCP Expeditions for a 3 nights, 4 days photography expedition to Udupi, one of South India’s most culturally vibrant destinations during the grand celebration of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. Every year, the temple town of Udupi comes alive with devotional rituals, colourful processions, traditional performances, and the world-famous Pili Vesha (Tiger Dance), creating extraordinary opportunities for photographers to document one of Karnataka’s most iconic festivals.

This carefully curated expedition goes far beyond festival photography. Participants will explore the beautiful coastline of Karnataka, photographing Kaup Lighthouse, Malpe Fishing Harbour, Kodi Bengre Beach, and the iconic Murudeshwar Temple. The itinerary blends cultural storytelling with landscape, architecture, portrait, and street photography, allowing participants to build a diverse and visually compelling portfolio.

Throughout the expedition, our Senior Photography Mentor will provide continuous on-field guidance, helping participants master composition, storytelling, natural light, environmental portraiture, and documentary photography techniques. Whether you’re photographing fishermen at dawn, devotees immersed in prayer, vibrant tiger dancers performing through the streets, or dramatic coastal sunsets, every session is designed to strengthen both your technical and creative skills.

How To Reach

The tour is Ex Udupi. The nearest airport is Mangaluru International Airport (IXE), located approximately 60 km from Udupi (around 1.5 hours by road). Contact our admin team for further logistics coordination.

Getting Ready

Itinerary

Reach designated stay in Udupi (Hotel Swadesh Heritage). We will check in by 1 pm. We will have lunch at Woodlands Restaurant. In the evening, we visit the picturesque Kaup Lighthouse and Beach, where participants will photograph dramatic coastal landscapes during golden hour, sunset, and blue hour. Long-exposure techniques and creative seascape compositions will be covered during the session. In the evening we will have a photography session at the Krishna Math. Eveing Dinner at Woodlands 

The day begins before sunrise at the bustling Malpe Fishing Harbour, capturing the vibrant fish auction, fishermen at work, colourful boats, fishing nets, and authentic coastal life through documentary photography.

After breakfast, there is an optional visit to Malpe Beach or St. Mary’s Islands, subject to weather and ferry operations.

Following lunch, we travel to the magnificent Murudeshwar Temple, where participants will photograph the towering Shiva statue, temple architecture, dramatic Arabian Sea coastline, sunset, blue hour, and night scenes before returning to Udupi.

Spend the entire day immersed in the spectacular celebrations at the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha.

Participants will photograph temple rituals, devotees, cultural performances, colourful decorations, chariot processions (subject to schedule), and the internationally acclaimed Pili Vesha (Tiger Dance). As night falls, the vibrant processions, illuminated streets, and energetic performances provide exceptional opportunities for documentary and street photography.

Throughout the day, the DCP mentor will guide participants on storytelling, anticipation, crowd management, composition, and capturing authentic cultural moments.

Following breakfast, participants may explore the local markets, purchase traditional Udupi sweets and souvenirs, and enjoy a final group interaction before departing for Mangaluru Airport or Udupi Railway Station by 11 AM.
