About The Tour

Embark on a 3 nights and 4 days guided travel photography tour to Wari Ringan – Akluj and surrounding regions, where faith, devotion, and tradition come alive in one of India’s most extraordinary cultural spectacles. The Pandharpur Wari is a centuries-old spiritual pilgrimage in Maharashtra, where lakhs of devotees, known as Warkaris, walk nearly 21 days on foot to reach Pandharpur, the sacred abode of Lord Vitthal (a form of Krishna/Vishnu), on the holy day of Ashadhi Ekadashi. Two historic palkhis (palanquins) — those of Sant Dnyaneshwar from Alandi and Sant Tukaram from Dehu — lead this massive procession, symbolizing devotion, equality, humility, and spiritual discipline.

At the heart of this sacred journey lies the deeply emotional Ringan ceremony, a centuries-old ritual where a sacred horse (Maulas), believed to embody the saint’s spirit, runs in a circular path on open ground as thousands of Warkaris follow barefoot, singing and chanting. The dust raised during this ritual is considered holy, and the event represents surrender, purity, and collective spiritual joy.

For photographers, Wari and Ringan are far more than religious events — they are powerful visual stories of faith, culture, community, and emotion. Every moment is a frame worth capturing:

  • Portraits of Warkaris: Expressions of devotion, traditional attire, and the spiritual energy on their faces.
  • Palkhi Processions: The vibrant palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram, adorned with flowers and sacred offerings.
  • Ringan Ceremony: Action-packed and emotional frames with galloping horses, swirling dust, and chanting devotees.
  • Bhajan & Kirtan: Joyful moments of singing, clapping, and shared devotion — perfect for candid storytelling.
  • Marching Pilgrims: Long lines of barefoot Warkaris with flags and tulsi plants, symbolizing unity and discipline.
  • Human Interactions: Villagers offering water, food, and medical aid — capturing the essence of compassion.
  • Golden Hours & Monsoon Moods: Dramatic light, rain-soaked roads, and atmospheric landscapes adding emotion to every shot.

Our Pandharpur Wari travel photography tour in Maharashtra is designed to help you document this timeless cultural phenomenon with sensitivity and respect. Guided by expert mentors, you’ll learn how to capture powerful storytelling images while experiencing one of India’s most profound spiritual journeys — a celebration of devotion, humanity, and tradition unlike any other.

Itinerary

  • 9:00 am: Depart from Mumbai to Akluj (Solapur District)
  • On the way, we'll take breaks for breakfast and lunch
  • 4:00 pm: Arrive in Akluj, check-in to our stay, and have a comprehensive briefing about the tour

We'll visit the Akluj school, where we'll experience the highly anticipated Ringan ritual, a highlight of the Wari festivities. Hundreds of Warkaris and locals from nearby cities and villages gather to witness this sacred ceremony and seek blessings. As the Warkaris stay in the grounds and nearby buildings for the day, we'll have ample opportunities to capture stunning photos from morning till evening. This will be a fantastic chance to document the vibrant atmosphere, devotion, and cultural richness of the Wari.

Our early morning journey to Ringan involves a scenic 8-12 kilometer walk, as vehicles are restricted. We'll rely on local support and, most importantly, the divine grace of Mauli to guide us along the way.

We'll spend the morning at Ringan, near Thakurbuva Chi Samadhi in Velapur, until the afternoon. After a fulfilling experience, we'll begin our journey back to Mumbai, arriving late evening, around 8:00 pm or later.

Important Note for Days 3 and 4

Please be prepared for extensive walking on these days, as vehicles are not permitted. We appreciate your cooperation and flexibility in case of any challenges that may arise during the journey. Your mentor will guide you through any difficulties, and we're confident that together, we'll make this experience memorable and enriching.
