Itinerary

Arrive in Hampi on your own (optional pickup from Hospet can be arranged). Check in to the hotel, freshen up, and gather for lunch at 1 PM followed by an introductory session on the itinerary and photography goals. After a short rest, we begin our first field session by 4 PM with a visit to the Hemakuta Hill complex. This is one of the best locations in Hampi to photograph the interplay of light and architectural elements during golden hour. Under expert guidance, you’ll explore practical techniques of using leading lines, layering, and creative framing amidst the stone structures.

Return to the hotel by 8 PM for dinner, followed by a group session on image review, post-processing, and one-on-one mentoring.

Early morning wake-up call at 4:00 AM for our second field session. By 4:30 AM, we start our trek to Matanga Hill, the highest point in Hampi, for a dramatic sunrise landscape photography session overlooking the ancient ruins and boulder-strewn terrain. After sunrise, we head to the Vijaya Vittala Temple to photograph the iconic Stone Chariot and its intricate carvings. Breakfast will be served outside the temple complex.

Post-session, return to the hotel for lunch and image review.

By 4 PM, we set out for our third session—capturing the sunset over Tungabhadra river ghats, traditional coracle boats, and candid life around the riverside. Return to the hotel for dinner followed by another interactive editing and discussion session.

Our final day begins with a 4:00 AM wake-up call. By 4:30 AM, we revisit the Hemakuta Hill temples, this time to photograph the sunrise lighting up the ancient shrines, boulders, and silhouettes. This fourth and final session offers a last chance to practice landscape and architectural compositions with early morning tones.

We return to the hotel for breakfast and check out by 10:30 AM.

Field Learnings

Hampi’s stunning ruins, surreal boulder-strewn landscapes, and golden light make it a playground for visual storytelling. This expedition is designed not just to help you create compelling images but to deepen your understanding of architectural, landscape, and travel photography in a culturally rich environment.

Under the guidance of your DCP mentor, you will:

  • Master wide-angle compositions to capture the scale and grandeur of Hampi’s ancient temples, monuments, and landscapes
  • Learn techniques for photographing heritage architecture with correct perspective and minimal distortion
  • Practice shooting during golden and blue hours, using natural light to enhance texture, depth, and drama
  • Understand how to use manual and semi-automatic modes (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, and Program) effectively on the field
  • Gain control over exposure in challenging lighting situations such as harsh midday sun or deep shadows in stone structures
  • Explore metering modes (evaluative, spot, center-weighted) and their best use in architectural and travel photography
  • Learn focusing techniques for both static structures and human elements (portraits, people in action) within your frame
  • Understand field ethics when photographing local people, pilgrims, or cultural events
  • Develop storytelling skills to create a meaningful travel photo essay — not just isolated shots
  • Explore the use of leading lines, symmetry, scale, and negative space in composition to strengthen your visual impact

Whether you’re photographing the iconic Virupaksha Temple, the boulder trails at sunset, or early morning mist rolling through ancient ruins, this masterclass will elevate both your technical control and artistic vision.
