Embark on a 3 nights 4 days wildlife photography expedition to Panna National Park, one of Central India’s most scenic and biodiverse tiger reserves. Located in the Vindhyan mountain ranges of Madhya Pradesh, Panna is renowned not just for its resurgent tiger population but also for its dramatic gorges, teak forests, and the crystal-clear Ken River, making it an extraordinary destination for wildlife and landscape photographers alike.

This expedition includes 6 thrilling gypsy safaris, designed to explore different zones of the park for maximum wildlife encounters. Panna offers rich photographic opportunities with subjects ranging from Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopards, Sloth Bears, and Gharials along the riverbanks, to a diverse range of birds and reptiles thriving across its forests and grasslands.

On the final day, the expedition also includes a visit to the iconic Khajuraho Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its stunning architecture, intricate carvings, and timeless heritage. This unique addition offers participants an opportunity to experience travel and heritage photography alongside wildlife storytelling, making the journey even more enriching and visually diverse.

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

  • Telephoto lenses – preferably above 400 mm, Wide angle lens.
  • Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
  • Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries.
  • Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop.
  • Carrying a Tripod is optional.
  • Carry a big towel / cloth to protect your gear from dust.
  • Carry a big cloth / bandanna / scarf to protect you from dust.
  • Warm clothes, gloves for the chilly early mornings.
  • Sun screens lotions are very important.
  • It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you along with your daily course of medicines (if any)
  • Please carry suitable mosquito repellants to keep you protected from mosquito bites.
  • Carry a pair of good binoculars.
  • Bean Bag

Itinerary

We will have a pick-up and drop facility from and to Jabalpur Airport. The drive to Panna National Park takes approximately 5 hours, so participants are advised to arrive early in the morning or a day prior to ensure timely arrival for the first safari. On reaching the resort, check in, freshen up, and enjoy lunch with the group. After lunch and a short rest, we will head out for our first evening safari into the forests of Panna National Park. Winter brings pleasant weather, soft golden light, misty landscapes, and excellent opportunities for wildlife photography. Apart from tigers, the park remains active with sightings of leopards, jackals, deer species, vultures, and a rich variety of birdlife during this season. We expect to return to the resort by around 6:30 PM. Enjoy tea and refreshments while sharing the day’s experiences with fellow participants. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by a briefing for the next day’s safari sessions.
Wake-up call at 5:00 AM. Enjoy tea or coffee before departing for the morning safari at around 5:45 AM. Winter mornings in Panna are atmospheric, with fog-covered grasslands, dramatic light, and active wildlife movement during the early hours. These conditions create excellent opportunities for wildlife photography and behavior observation. We return to the resort by around 11:00 AM for breakfast. Depending on the group’s preference, breakfast can also be enjoyed inside the park as a packed meal experience amidst nature. The late morning and afternoon can be spent relaxing at the resort, reviewing images, or discussing photography techniques with the mentor. Lunch will be served at the resort before we leave for the evening safari at around 2:30 PM. The winter evenings in Panna often offer beautiful warm light conditions and increased animal movement near open grasslands and river edges. We return to the resort by approximately 6:15 PM for tea and refreshments. Later in the evening, the DCP mentor will conduct photography learning and image review sessions, discussing field techniques, compositions, wildlife behavior, exposure challenges, and post-processing approaches using images captured during the safaris. Dinner will be served by 8:30 PM, followed by rest in preparation for the next day’s safari.
Begin the day with one final early morning safari in Panna National Park, making the most of the beautiful winter atmosphere and last photographic opportunities in the forest. Return to the resort by around 10:00 AM for breakfast. After breakfast and lunch, check out from the resort and proceed towards Khajuraho for a short visit to the famous temple complex and surrounding heritage landscapes. Following the visit, we will depart for Jabalpur. Participants are advised to book late evening return flights from Jabalpur Airport to allow adequate travel time.

Please take a note that sighting of a Tiger and / or a good photography opportunity to capture it in an ideal frame is a matter of luck. Though the possibility of sighting is high but it can never be guaranteed in the wild.
