Scheduled during the monsoon season, this expedition presents exceptional opportunities to photograph the remarkable diversity of amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders, fungi, and other fascinating creatures thriving in these rain-soaked forests.
Wayanad’s dense evergreen forests, mist-covered trails, mossy tree trunks, and moisture-rich leaf litter provide an ideal habitat for an astonishing variety of macro subjects. From colourful bush frogs and elusive caecilians to cryptic snakes, spiders, mantises, and bioluminescent fungi, every trail uncovers a hidden world waiting to be discovered through the lens.
Led by an experienced DCP photography mentor and supported by local biodiversity experts, the expedition helps DCP patrons strengthen their macro photography skills while developing a deeper understanding of rainforest ecosystems. Kane Lew, one of the finest artists in the DCP panel of experts. He is an arts graduate from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai, and is a commercial photographer. Kane is an experienced photographer and has travelled extensively across Indian geography for several years. He has brilliant photography skills and technical knowledge in all genres of photography with a special interest in wildlife photography. He is known for his innovations and his capability of giving shape to imaginations. He has a great teaching acumen. Apart from his love for art, sculpture and music, he is a skilled trainer, trekker and a biodiversity expert. He is a Masterclass Mentor in the panel and Head of Creative Photography Division, Team DCP.

<p><p>The nearest airport and railway station is <strong>Kozhikode (Calicut)</strong>. Wayanad is approximately 66 km from Kozhikode, which typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours by road.</p><p><strong>We request all participants to arrive in Kozhikode either by early morning on Day 1 or on the previous evening. Pickup and drop from Kozhikode in air-conditioned vehicles are included in the package. We plan to depart from Kozhikode by 10:30 AM at the latest, allowing us to reach our resort comfortably in time for lunch.</strong></p><p>Participants driving down from Bangalore may contact our admin team regarding possible carpooling arrangements with other guests travelling from the same region. If you are arriving directly at the property, please ensure that you reach <strong>Wild Wayanad by CGH Earth</strong> preferably by lunchtime, and no later than <strong>5:00 PM</strong>.</p><p>Upon arrival, complete your check-in formalities and settle into the beautiful rainforest setting of the resort. After lunch and some time to relax, join the group for an introductory session led by our photography mentor and biodiversity expert. During this briefing, participants will be introduced to the biodiversity of the region, the photography opportunities available during the expedition, and the overall plan for the coming days. The mentor will also conduct a practical demonstration on the effective use of <strong>flash, diffusers, and lighting techniques in macro photography</strong>.</p><p>As evening approaches, we head out for our <strong>first guided macro trail</strong>, exploring the rich habitats around the property. Our mentor and naturalist will provide continuous on-field guidance to help you photograph insects, frogs, reptiles, fungi, and other fascinating rainforest subjects.</p><p>After dinner, we venture into the forest once again for a <strong>night trail</strong>, searching for Wayanad’s remarkable herpetofauna and nocturnal wildlife. This is often one of the most exciting sessions of the expedition, offering opportunities to photograph frogs, snakes, spiders, and other rainforest creatures that emerge after dark.</p><p>Dinner and overnight stay at Wild Wayanad.</p></p>
<p><p>The day begins early with tea or coffee before heading out for our morning macro photography sessions in the forests surrounding the property. The rich habitats of Wayanad offer excellent opportunities to photograph a remarkable diversity of <strong>insects, butterflies, spiders, frogs, reptiles, fungi, and other rainforest inhabitants</strong>. Our mentor and naturalist will help participants locate subjects, understand their behavior, and create compelling images using a variety of macro photography techniques.</p><p>After returning to the resort, enjoy breakfast and some time to relax. Following lunch, we will conduct <strong>interactive image review and learning sessions</strong>, where participants can discuss their photographs, receive constructive feedback, and learn advanced concepts related to composition, lighting, subject isolation, storytelling, and post-processing.</p><p>As the day progresses, we head back into the field for our evening and night trails. These sessions focus on Wayanad’s spectacular nocturnal biodiversity, providing opportunities to photograph a wide range of <strong>amphibians, reptiles, spiders, insects, and other fascinating creatures that emerge after dark</strong>.
