Timed during the monsoon season, this expedition offers exceptional opportunities to photograph the remarkable diversity of amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders, fungi, and other fascinating creatures that thrive in these rain-soaked forests.
Wayanadās dense evergreen forests, misty trails, moss-covered tree trunks, and moisture-rich leaf litter create the perfect habitat for an incredible variety of macro subjects. From colorful bush frogs and elusive caecilians to cryptic snakes, spiders, mantises, and bioluminescent fungi, every trail reveals a hidden world waiting to be explored through the lens.
Led by an experienced DCP photography mentor and supported by local biodiversity experts, this expedition is designed to help participants refine their macro photography skills while gaining a deeper understanding of rainforest ecosystems. You will learn subject detection, creative lighting techniques, diffuser usage, wide-angle macro photography, composition, and ethical approaches to photographing wildlife in their natural habitats.

Dr Caesar Sengupta is a globally acclaimed Wildlife Conservation Photographer, a National Geographic acknowledged educator, freelance writer and trainer. He is a Canon India EOS Maestro, a qualified MD Medical Microbiologist and is also the Founder Director of DCP Expeditions LLP, which is India's one of the largest Wildlife, Nature and Travel Photography Community Platform, operating since 2010 and now present in 21 cities across India. He conducts regular photography workshops and field expeditions across the country. He has travelled far and wide across Indian geography and beyond. He has the timeless distinction of having a frog species discovered in 2014 named after him - The Indosylvirana caesari also known otherwise as the Maharashtra Golden Backed Frog. Through his photography, he tries to depict the untold and unseen beauties of nature.

The nearest airport and railway station is Kozhikode (Calicut). Wayanad is approximately 66 km from Kozhikode, which typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours by road.
We request all participants to arrive in Kozhikode either by early morning on Day 1 or on the previous evening. Pickup and drop from Kozhikode in air-conditioned vehicles are included in the package. We plan to depart from Kozhikode by 10:30 AM at the latest, allowing us to reach our resort comfortably in time for lunch.
Participants driving down from Bangalore may contact our admin team regarding possible carpooling arrangements with other guests travelling from the same region. If you are arriving directly at the property, please ensure that you reach Wild Wayanad by CGH Earth preferably by lunchtime, and no later than 5:00 PM.
Upon arrival, complete your check-in formalities and settle into the beautiful rainforest setting of the resort. After lunch and some time to relax, join the group for an introductory session led by our photography mentor and biodiversity expert. During this briefing, participants will be introduced to the biodiversity of the region, the photography opportunities available during the expedition, and the overall plan for the coming days. The mentor will also conduct a practical demonstration on the effective use of flash, diffusers, and lighting techniques in macro photography.
As evening approaches, we head out for our first guided macro trail, exploring the rich habitats around the property. Our mentor and naturalist will provide continuous on-field guidance to help you photograph insects, frogs, reptiles, fungi, and other fascinating rainforest subjects.
After dinner, we venture into the forest once again for a night trail, searching for Wayanadās remarkable herpetofauna and nocturnal wildlife. This is often one of the most exciting sessions of the expedition, offering opportunities to photograph frogs, snakes, spiders, and other rainforest creatures that emerge after dark.

The day begins early with tea or coffee before heading out for our morning macro photography sessions in the forests surrounding the property. The rich habitats of Wayanad offer excellent opportunities to photograph a remarkable diversity of insects, butterflies, spiders, frogs, reptiles, fungi, and other rainforest inhabitants. Our mentor and naturalist will help participants locate subjects, understand their behavior, and create compelling images using a variety of macro photography techniques.
After returning to the resort, enjoy breakfast and some time to relax. Following lunch, we will conduct interactive image review and learning sessions, where participants can discuss their photographs, receive constructive feedback, and learn advanced concepts related to composition, lighting, subject isolation, storytelling, and post-processing.
As the day progresses, we head back into the field for our evening and night trails. These sessions focus on Wayanadās spectacular nocturnal biodiversity, providing opportunities to photograph a wide range of amphibians, reptiles, spiders, insects, and other fascinating creatures that emerge after dark. The rainforest comes alive at night, making these trails some of the most rewarding and exciting photography sessions of the expedition.

Enjoy a relaxed morning amidst the serene rainforest surroundings and join the group for breakfast. This is a good opportunity to exchange photographs, share experiences, and reflect on the incredible biodiversity encounters and learning moments from the past few days.
As the expedition comes to an end, itās time to head home with new friendships, unforgettable memories, enhanced macro photography skills, and memory cards filled with the remarkable wildlife and hidden wonders of Wayanadās rainforests.
