Things to carry:
Upon arrival at Kochi International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by our team and begin your scenic 3-hour drive to Munnar, a monsoon-soaked paradise nestled in the Western Ghats. After check-in at the eco-lodge, unwind and enjoy a hearty lunch before regrouping at 5 PM for a detailed orientation with the DCP mentor. This briefing will cover safety, biodiversity highlights of the region, and macro photography techniques specific to monsoon forests. For newcomers, there will be a hands-on walkthrough on setting up your flash and diffuser system for low-light macro. As dusk sets in, we venture out for our first guided night trail through Munnar’s rain-drenched undergrowth, searching for frogs, geckos, vine snakes, and other fascinating herpetofauna.
The second day begins at a relaxed pace, offering time to review and critique images captured during the previous night. Our mentor will lead a constructive session on visual storytelling, framing, and lighting improvements. After a break in the afternoon, the evening opens with another exhilarating night macro trail, covering new biodiversity hotspots where rare amphibians and reptiles emerge in the cool, misty darkness. Expect thrilling encounters with bush frogs, forest toads, and tree-climbing snakes.
We start early today for a full-day adventure to the Meesapulimala peak, home to some of the region’s rarest endemic species including the Resplendent bush frog, Kodaikanal bush frog, and vine snakes. Accessed via a rugged off-road 4x4 trail, the journey itself is a visual treat, passing mist-covered valleys and high-altitude forests. Weather plays a crucial role today, as sightings depend on rainfall, temperature, and timing. We aim to return to the resort by mid-afternoon for a hot lunch and rest. The final evening promises one last thrilling night trail, where we explore different forest patches and document elusive nocturnal subjects in their natural monsoon habitat.
After an early morning breakfast, bid farewell to Munnar’s rainforest wonders around 9 am Our team will arrange drop-offs to Kochi Airport, ensuring a smooth and timely transfer for your return journey home—with memory cards full and hearts fuller.
