Meghalaya - Macro Photography Expedition, Aug 2027 (Batch 2)

The morning will begin with a dedicated indoor presentation on macro photography, covering the nuances of photographing small subjects in the field. The session will discuss camera settings, focusing techniques, depth of field, magnification, composition, background control, use of flash and diffusers, creative lighting approaches, and practical tips and tricks for improving macro photography in real-world field conditions.

Following the indoor session, we will visit the beautiful Garden of Caves, an atmospheric landscape surrounded by lush vegetation, flowing streams, waterfalls, moss-covered rocks and characteristic Meghalaya monsoon scenery. The location offers excellent opportunities to practise landscape and creative nature photography, including wide-angle compositions, slow shutter speeds, flowing-water techniques and working creatively with mist, textures and diffused natural light.

At approximately 6:00 PM, we will begin our second guided evening exploration for herpetofauna and other macro subjects. Participants will apply the techniques discussed during the morning presentation while photographing frogs, reptiles, insects, spiders and other smaller inhabitants of the rainforest ecosystem in their natural surroundings.

The field session will conclude at approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner at around 10:00 PM. Overnight stay at Sohra.

The morning will be dedicated to landscape photography around the spectacular Seven Sisters Falls and the surrounding Sohra landscape. The monsoon season can transform this region into a dramatic photographic canvas of waterfalls, clouds, mist and intensely green hills. Participants will explore landscape composition, perspective, exposure management and techniques for creatively interpreting changing light and weather conditions.

The afternoon will provide time to rest and prepare equipment before the evening field session.

At approximately 6:00 PM, we will head out for another guided exploration of suitable natural habitats in search of reptiles, amphibians and other nocturnal macro subjects. As participants become increasingly familiar with their equipment and lighting systems, the emphasis will gradually move beyond documentation towards stronger compositions, creative lighting, environmental portraits and visual storytelling.

The field session will continue until approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner at around 10:00 PM. Overnight stay at Sohra.

The morning is planned around Wah-Kaba Falls or another suitable nearby landscape location, depending on accessibility and prevailing conditions. Meghalaya’s dramatic valleys, waterfalls, monsoon clouds and lush vegetation provide excellent opportunities for wide-angle landscape photography and creative nature compositions.

Later in the day, we will visit the iconic Nohkalikai Falls, where participants can photograph one of Meghalaya’s most dramatic landscapes and experiment with compositions incorporating the waterfall, cliffs, mist, clouds and surrounding forest.

At approximately 6:00 PM, we will begin our final guided evening field exploration. This session will provide another opportunity to search for and photograph herpetofauna and other nocturnal macro subjects while bringing together the observation, focusing, flash, diffuser, lighting and composition techniques practised throughout the expedition.

The final field session will conclude at approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner at around 10:00 PM. Overnight stay at Sohra.

After breakfast, participants will check out from the resort and depart for their respective onward journeys, bringing the Meghalaya macro and landscape photography experience to a close.
