Meghalaya is one of India’s most fascinating destinations for macro photography, known for its dense rainforests, high humidity, and thriving microhabitats that come alive during the monsoon. During this 4 nights, 5 days macro photography expedition, we will explore the biodiversity-rich regions of West Jaintia Hills and Sohra (Cherrapunji), moving through locations such as Jowai, Mawlynnong, and surrounding forest patches. From forest floors glowing with bioluminescent fungi to hidden amphibians, insects, and reptiles tucked within mossy landscapes, every moment offers unique and rare photographic opportunities.

Dr Caesar Sengupta is a globally acclaimed Wildlife Conservation Photographer, a National Geographic acknowledged educator, freelance writer and trainer. He is a Canon India EOS Maestro, a qualified MD Medical Microbiologist and is also the Founder Director of DCP Expeditions LLP, which is India's one of the largest Wildlife, Nature and Travel Photography Community Platform, operating since 2010 and now present in 21 cities across India. He conducts regular photography workshops and field expeditions across the country. He has travelled far and wide across Indian geography and beyond. He has the timeless distinction of having a frog species discovered in 2014 named after him - The Indosylvirana caesari also known otherwise as the Maharashtra Golden Backed Frog. Through his photography, he tries to depict the untold and unseen beauties of nature.

All participants are requested to arrive at Sohra (Cherrapunji) by afternoon. You may choose to travel via Shillong or Guwahati, with Guwahati offering better flight connectivity.
After arrival, complete your check-in and take some time to relax at the property. The surrounding landscape itself offers excellent opportunities to observe macro subjects such as insects, fungi, and small reptiles.
In the evening, we will have a welcome session with the DCP mentor, where you will be introduced to macro photography techniques, safety practices, and the overall plan for the expedition.
Post dinner, we head out for our first guided night macro session, exploring nearby forest patches in search of frogs, insects, spiders, and other nocturnal subjects.
Overnight stay at Sohra
Begin early with tea/coffee before heading out for a morning macro session in nearby forest habitats. The moist conditions of Meghalaya offer ideal opportunities to photograph tree frogs, bush frogs, insects, and unique forest-floor compositions.
Return for breakfast, followed by a short rest and image review session, where the mentor will guide you on composition, lighting, and improvements.
Post lunch, we explore additional forest trails and microhabitats focusing on fungi, textures, and creative macro compositions.
After dinner, head out for an extended night macro session, targeting bioluminescent fungi, nocturnal amphibians, spiders, and reptiles.
Overnight stay at Sohra
Wake up early and prepare for a field session towards the Mawlynnong region, known not just for its scenic beauty but also for its rich leaf-litter and root-bridge ecosystems.
Spend the day exploring humid forest zones, photographing arthropods, reptiles, and amphibians in natural habitats. The unique root structures and forest textures also provide excellent opportunities for wide-angle macro storytelling.
Lunch will be arranged locally. Post-lunch, continue exploring nearby forest patches and caves for fungi, insects, and creative compositions.
Return by evening. Post dinner, an optional night macro session will be conducted based on conditions.
Overnight stay at Sohra
Early morning session focusing on fine-detail macro work, textures, and behavior-based photography.

After lunch and rest, we head out for another field session exploring new microhabitats, focusing on rare subjects and creative frames.
Post dinner, we conduct the final night macro session, aiming for bioluminescent fungi, rare amphibians, and advanced macro compositions using learned techniques.
Overnight stay at Sohra
Enjoy a relaxed morning with breakfast. This will be followed by a final image review, discussion, and group interaction session, where participants can share their work and receive feedback.
We conclude the expedition with group photographs and departure.
