Meghalaya - Macro Photography Expedition, Aug 2027 (Batch 1)

After breakfast, we will visit the beautiful Garden of Caves, an atmospheric natural landscape surrounded by dense vegetation, waterfalls, streams, moss-covered rocks and lush greenery. The location provides excellent opportunities for landscape, close-up and creative nature photography.

Participants will explore compositions involving flowing water, forest textures, natural patterns and diffused light while learning to creatively interpret Meghalaya’s rainforest environment. Depending on conditions, we will also experiment with techniques such as slow-shutter photography and environmental close-ups.

Following the morning photography session, we will return to Sa-I-Mika for lunch and rest before preparing for another evening in the field.

At approximately 6:00 PM, we will begin our second guided herping and macro photography session, exploring suitable microhabitats for Meghalaya’s remarkable reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders and other nocturnal wildlife. The emphasis will gradually move towards stronger compositions, background control, creative flash techniques and environmental storytelling.

The field session will continue until approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner. Overnight stay at Sa-I-Mika Resort, Sohra.

The morning will be dedicated to photographing Seven Sisters Falls and the surrounding landscapes of Sohra. Depending on weather and visibility, the region can offer spectacular photographic opportunities with cascading waterfalls, rolling hills, dramatic clouds, mist and expansive monsoon landscapes.

Participants will work on wide-angle compositions, exposure management, perspective, foreground selection and creative techniques for photographing waterfalls and changing natural light.

Later in the day, we will proceed towards the iconic Nohkalikai Falls, one of Meghalaya’s most dramatic landscape photography locations. The towering cliffs, deep valley, surrounding rainforest and shifting mist provide opportunities to experiment with different perspectives and compositions depending on the prevailing weather and light.

As evening approaches, we will transition into another guided herping and macro photography exploration from approximately 6:00 PM. We will search suitable rainforest habitats for amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal macro subjects while continuing to practise creative lighting, focusing and composition techniques.

The field session will continue until approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner. Overnight stay at Sa-I-Mika Resort, Sohra.

After breakfast, we will explore the natural habitats and landscapes along Arwah Caves Road. The surrounding forests, limestone formations, vegetation and characteristic Meghalaya scenery provide interesting opportunities for landscape, environmental and close-up nature photography.

The morning session will encourage participants to look beyond conventional landscapes and discover smaller details, textures, patterns and natural elements that can be transformed into creative photographic compositions.

We will return to Sa-I-Mika for lunch and some rest before preparing for our final evening field session.

At approximately 6:00 PM, we will venture into suitable rainforest habitats for the final guided herping and macro photography exploration of the expedition. Participants will have another opportunity to photograph reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders and other nocturnal subjects while experimenting with creative lighting, environmental portraits, side lighting, backlighting and other techniques wherever conditions permit.

The field session will conclude at approximately 9:00 PM, followed by dinner. Overnight stay at Sa-I-Mika Resort, Sohra.

After breakfast at Sa-I-Mika, participants will check out and begin their respective onward journeys, bringing the Meghalaya Macro Photography Expedition to a close after an immersive experience of macro photography, rainforest biodiversity, landscapes and field-based photographic learning.

Important Note: The itinerary is indicative and may be modified depending on weather, rainfall, road and trail accessibility, prevailing local conditions, wildlife activity and other circumstances in Meghalaya. Herping locations may also be changed depending on field conditions and recent sightings to maximise responsible photography opportunities.
