His work has also appeared in world-renowned magazines like BBC Wildlife. With over a decade in India’s jungles—photographing everything from tiny insects to apex predators, Ripan brings unmatched field experience. He has led workshops at premier institutions, including the Indian Statistical Institute, British Council, Kolkata, and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Mumbai. A passionate mentor, Ripan loves to share his knowledge and help others create extraordinary images of the wild.

The journey begins with arrival at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station by 10:00 AM, followed by a scenic drive to Sherpagaon. Upon reaching, participants will check into a cozy local homestay and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch.
The afternoon session will introduce participants to the region’s unique ecology, subject behavior, and essential macro photography techniques tailored to the terrain. As the forest comes alive after sunset, the first guided night walk begins, focusing on locating and photographing nocturnal amphibians and insects in their natural habitat. The day concludes with dinner and informal discussions.
The days start with a morning field session, allowing participants to explore different lighting conditions and subjects. After breakfast, the session continues before returning for lunch and rest.
In the evenings, participants head out for another guided macro shoot, this time with a more refined approach based on learnings from the previous sessions. The night walk offers opportunities to capture rare species and experiment with creative lighting techniques. The day concludes with a review session, where images are discussed and refined under expert guidance.
The final day begins with an early morning photography session, focusing on capturing subjects in softer natural light. After breakfast, participants prepare for departure around 10:00 AM, carrying with them not just images, but a deeper understanding of macro photography and fieldcraft.
This workshop is designed to transform the way you approach macro photography. Participants will learn how to observe and interpret subject behavior, adapt to challenging lighting conditions, and use both natural and artificial light creatively. The focus is on building a strong foundation in fieldcraft, enabling you to consistently capture compelling macro images while respecting the ecosystem.
