Itinerary

Our bird photography expedition begins from Navi Mumbai at 7:00 AM. The exact pickup location and reporting time will be communicated in advance by your DCP Skipper. We’ll travel comfortably by AC Tempo Traveller and are expected to reach Kumbhargaon by around 2:30 PM, with breakfast and lunch stops en route.

After check-in and a brief refresh, we’ll head out by 3:30 PM for a jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan. We’ll explore the surrounding grasslands, agricultural fields and suitable birding habitats, looking for opportunities to photograph resident birds and other wildlife. As evening approaches, we’ll also work with the warm light and natural landscape to create environmental portraits and silhouettes.

After the safari, we’ll return to our hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

We begin early in the morning with another jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan. Don’t forget to carry some light snacks or biscuits along. The soft morning light offers excellent opportunities to photograph birds in their natural habitats while observing their behaviour and movements.

After a productive photography session, we’ll return for a late breakfast. Depending on local conditions and bird activity, we may also explore suitable nearby areas on foot before lunch.

After lunch, we begin our return journey to Navi Mumbai at around 2:00 PM, aiming to reach by approximately 7:00 PM.

Field Learnings

This Bhigwan Bird Photography Expedition is designed to offer much more than photographic output - it is an opportunity to explore the diverse habitats and resident birdlife found across the outskirts of Bhigwan. With jeep safaris on both days, the tour combines bird photography with ecological understanding, careful field observation and responsible wildlife practices.

Under the expert mentorship of a DCP wildlife photography expert, participants will:

  • Learn to identify resident birds found across grasslands, agricultural fields, scrublands and other habitats around Bhigwan
  • Observe and interpret natural bird behaviour, including foraging, hunting, territorial activity, flock movement and interactions between species
  • Understand how water levels, seasonal changes, habitat conditions and available food sources influence bird presence and movement
  • Practice responsible fieldcraft while photographing from a safari vehicle and on foot, ensuring minimal disturbance to birds and their habitats
  • Learn to work with changing light, backgrounds and field conditions to create strong wildlife images
  • Use photography as a tool for storytelling and conservation by documenting birds within their wider environment
  • Refine compositional skills to create impactful frames that go beyond close portraits and capture the character of the landscape

The expedition will focus on jeep-based exploration of Bhigwan’s outskirts rather than boat safaris. This provides a valuable opportunity to understand how photographers adapt to changing field conditions while discovering and documenting the region’s resident birdlife.
