Experience a 2-night, 3-day Bhigwan Bird Photography Expedition designed to explore the rich birdlife and varied landscapes of Bhigwan and Saswad through guided jeep safaris.
The expedition begins with an afternoon jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan, exploring its agricultural fields, scrublands, open countryside and other bird-rich habitats. The following day features a full-day safari in the Saswad region, known for its expansive grasslands and opportunities to photograph raptors, larks, pipits, shrikes and other grassland species against beautiful natural backdrops. On the final morning, we return to the outskirts of Bhigwan for another jeep safari and a last session of field photography.
Combining the open habitats of Bhigwan with the grassland landscapes of Saswad, this thoughtfully planned tour offers bird lovers and nature photographers diverse photographic opportunities, valuable field experience and expert guidance across three immersive days.

Join DCP Expeditions for a professionally guided 2-night, 3-day bird photography tour to Bhigwan and Saswad, exploring a diverse combination of agricultural fields, open countryside, dry scrub and grassland habitats through carefully planned jeep safaris.
The expedition begins with an afternoon jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan, offering opportunities to photograph resident birds in warm evening light. Day 2 features a full-day safari in the Saswad region, where expansive grasslands and dry scrub provide excellent habitats for raptors, larks, pipits, shrikes, coursers and other grassland specialists. On Day 3, we return to the outskirts of Bhigwan for a final morning jeep safari.
Guided by an expert DCP Wildlife Photography Mentor, participants will learn to anticipate bird behaviour, work effectively with changing light, refine exposure and focusing techniques, create stronger environmental compositions and follow ethical bird photography practices. The combination of Bhigwan’s open rural habitats and Saswad’s grassland landscapes makes this an engaging expedition for building a varied and visually compelling bird photography portfolio.
Bhigwan Outskirts:
Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Indian Pond Heron, Little Egret, Intermediate Egret, Great Egret, Black-headed Ibis, Red-naped Ibis, Red-wattled Lapwing, Black-winged Stilt, Common Sandpiper, Black-shouldered Kite, Common Kestrel, Indian Roller, Green Bee-eater, Common Hoopoe and Long-tailed Shrike.
Saswad Grasslands and Dry Scrub:
Short-eared Owl, Montagu’s Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Black-shouldered Kite, Common Kestrel, Indian Courser, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Lark, Indian Bushlark, Paddyfield Pipit, Rufous-tailed Lark, Long-tailed Shrike, Bay-backed Shrike, Southern Grey Shrike, Common Hoopoe, Green Bee-eater, Indian Roller and Red-naped Ibis.

Yogesh Chavan, a graduate from JJ School of Applied Arts, apart from being a visualizer, a poet, a writer and an actor, is a full-time Yoga trainer and Acupressure Therapist. He is also a skilled outdoor adventure sports trainer. He has authored the popular book Matheran - A Practical Guide. Many of his images have drawn considerable popularity in many publications including BNHS CEC and MTDCs quarterly magazine - Maharashtra Unlimited. He has sound knowledge of the biodiversity around him and is currently engaged at Saguna Baug on an Agro-Tourism outfit. He is associated in the DCP panel as a Panel Expert and Consultant in Strategy Team.

We will be travelling in a tempo traveller via Solapur highway. It is around 105 km from Pune.
Things to carry:
We leave Vashi at 7:00 AM by AC Tempo Traveller and travel to Bhigwan, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch and a short break, we begin our first jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan, exploring the surrounding agricultural fields, scrublands and open countryside for bird photography.
After the evening photography session, we travel to our hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Local safari vehicles will pick us up from hotel at 5:00 AM for a full-day bird photography safari in the Saswad region. Breakfast will be arranged along the way.
We spend the day exploring Saswad’s grasslands and dry scrub habitats, looking for raptors, larks, pipits, shrikes, coursers and other grassland birds. Photography sessions will continue through the day, with suitable breaks for meals and refreshments.
After the evening session, we return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
We check out from the hotel at 6:00 AM and proceed for an early-morning jeep safari through the outskirts of Bhigwan. The soft morning light offers excellent opportunities for bird photography across the region’s open and rural habitats.
After breakfast, we continue exploring suitable nearby areas for land-based bird photography. We return for lunch at around 12:30 PM and then begin our journey back to Mumbai, aiming to reach Vashi by approximately 6:00 PM.
